Problem Based Learning and Digital Literacy

The goal of PBL is to introduce students to real problem-solving situations.  The process mirrors how adults solve problems for themselves in their day to day lives.  This process promotes independent thought and helps students develop a tool kit for solving their own problems in and out of school.

The Problem solving process also helps promote development of the new learning skills.  In order to be successful students must act RESPONSIBLY to research and create a solution to the problem.  They must ORGANIZE their work in order to follow the process step-by-step.  Students work INDEPENDENTLY to complete research on questions assigned to them by their group. They COLLABORATE with their peers to develop a plan of attack and to assign work to each other so the problem can be solved.  Students take INITIATIVE to make decisions that will support their group and that will help them complete their task.  Lastly, students must SELF-REGULATE their behaviour in order to be a constructive member of their group and to participate in our class.
